Yep is sure is... Not sure if you invested in curis because of the hair program or not. But still expecting great things out of the cancer arena

As you can tell curis kept flip-flopping on partnering their multi-target cancer program. In the last presentation they said they are looking for partner and should have one in the near future. The presentation before that they said THEY are going to file the IND in early 08 and keep it for themselves.

Well agonist like I have always said is risky. As for possible benefits of agonist I would starting thinking for invitro stuff like stem cell research. But even then curis changed into a cancer research company and moved away from the stem cell research arena. There have been numerous ppl saying the hair/stroke is not the reason to invest in curis. It would have been an added bonus. Obviously BCC and Hair growth topical application has been extremely hard to formulate. Despite the repository of information linking bcc/hair growth and it is still growing by the way.

Hi Hedgehog,

I happened to run into this site because I'm a researcher also and do cancer work that is related to shh and wnt signaling. The hair follicle induction effect observed with the shh agonist was a very powerful phenotype and I've been checking up on the story whenever I could. I'm disappointed to hear that the side effect profile for the agonist turned out to be unfavorable. Is there any way to obtain more information about the details? Were these effects specific to the compound or a downstream result of activation of this signaling pathway? Are there indications that a different compound or therapeutic strategy might be able to produce hair follicle induction by targeting upstream or downstream members in the pathway and minimize whatever the observed side effects were?

I had great hopes for this molecule. What exactly were the undesirable side effects? Not being a bio-chemist, what does this do for the future of shh for hair restoration? Is this effectively the end shh as a treatment for hair loss?

Hi Mouse Man,

That is wonderful that you are a cancer research on the Wnt and Hh pathways. I have always wanted to get into cancer research which has always fascinated me. I personally have not had a chance to call curis and waiting to hear their conference call. I know in curis preclinical mouse hair growth model they agonized SMO. Maybe a better way to turn it on would be to stop ptc from working for a short time??? I don't know the details about the tox issues but would like to know. You raise a lot of important questions. If I call them in the near future I will bring your questions up. I mainly got interested in the Hh pathway for cancer applications.

Hi Filmus,

At least for right now the Hair growth is going to revert back to curis. Curis is a cancer company not a hair company. MAYBE, when/if they make money off of their cancer products they will try to redevelop it.
